Should I always skip the Basic Egg?
Almost always. The Basic Egg's boost is so small that every Win is better spent saving for Uncommon or Rare. The only exception is a brand-new account with zero pets to start breeding from.
Do expensive eggs only matter for pets, not training?

The best egg depends less on the egg itself and more on your Wins per race. In the first hour (under 50 Wins), the Basic Egg is the only realistic buy — use it to hatch your first pet and start breeding. The moment you can hold ~250 Wins, switch to the Uncommon Egg: it costs a fraction of Rare and gives the best boost per Win in the early game.
In the mid game (250–1,200 Wins per race), stop buying Uncommon and save for Rare. Rare eggs gate noticeably better pets and a stronger training boost, and the 1,200-Win price is reachable in under a day of normal play. Skip the Epic and Legendary eggs here — their 6,000 and 30,000-Win costs stall your training for days while your Wins per race stays flat.
